Melita came from West Texas. She was fairly well taken care of physically but had incredible emotional distress when she arrived at CARE in the fall of 2005. She was only 8 weeks old but had a vicious temperament. She was extremely distrustful of people, in particular large men.
Even though Melita has been at CARE for many, many years now, she still dislikes men. Our tour groups usually have to pass by her enclosure altogether so she doesn't get upset. But, there are a few male volunteers that she absolutely loves. For the most part, she is a very happy and healthy tiger. She loves her primary CAREgivers and never fails to show her happiness when she receives their love.
