Diego

In the fall of 2025, Diego began showing signs that something wasn’t right. He started losing strength in his hindquarters and became very wobbly when he walked. His symptoms were very similar to what Mia experienced with toxoplasmosis, and he also tested positive. After treatment last year, he improved significantly but never fully returned to normal. Still, he was stable, and we were watching him closely.
Then after many months his condition suddenly changed. We intervened immediately, but sadly he passed away under anesthesia during a CT scan. It has been incredibly heartbreaking for all of us.
Because of Diego’s symptoms — and the similarities we’ve seen in both Mia and Bob — we are taking this very seriously. We are actively working with our veterinary team and a pathologist at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory to better understand what may be going on.
But today, we just want to honor our sweet Diego.
He was such a unique bobcat — social, gentle, affectionate, and full of charm. He came to us in 2023 as a former pet and joined Bobbie and Bob to create a little bobcat family that truly loved each other. He had every single one of us at CARE wrapped around his paw.
He was deeply loved, and we did everything we could for him every step of the way. Now we will focus on learning as much as we can and continue doing everything we can for the animals in our care.

Diego's Bio
Diego was owned as a pet since he was young, and eventually his owners decided they couldn’t provide him with the care he needed and reached out to our friends at Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center who then contacted us to see if we would be willing to give him a forever home.
Since arriving Diego has stolen everyone's hearts. He is incredibly sweet and so, so handsome. We have moved him in with two other bobcats, Bob and Bobbie. Since Bob is around the same age, we hope that they will be lifelong pals.
